Heard Gardens Ltd. can trace its roots back to 1928
when Clyde Heard started a nursery and landscaping
business in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1958, Bill Heard,
Clyde's son, established Heard Gardens Ltd. in the
effort to focus more on landscape architecture and
landscape construction. Heard Gardens Ltd. grew rapidly
as it undertook numerous premier landscape projects
throughout the Midwest. In the early 1960's Heard
Gardens Ltd. and Heards Landscape Nurseries merged under
the name Heard Gardens Limited.
In 1991, Bob
Rennebohm, a registered Landscape Architect, purchased
Heard Gardens Ltd. Bob's objectives in the acquisition
were to build on the firm's reputation for quality with
an emphasis on landscape architecture design and the
introduction of new and useful plant material.
Spring, 2001,
Heard Gardens Ltd. will celebrate it 73rd anniversary
with a new location and entirely new facility. Our new
home is located on 56 acres nestled along the Raccoon
River and Sugar Creek. This new site will allow Heard
Gardens to expand it's production areas of specimen
plant materials, demonstration gardens as well as
provide areas for restoration of prairie and other
natural areas.
